About Me.

I am Nomsa, a set and costume designer with experience in theatre and production. I am interested in exploring different media, such as film, theater, and creative direction. I am originally from Soweto, Johannesburg, and graduated with a degree in Theater and Performance, majoring in Design and Writing for the stage. I have worked as the Head of Wardrobe at Rhodes University, facilitating the design and production of costumes for students and departmental productions such as RU Game. Moreover, working collaboratively with other departments at the university, such as the Journalism Department, to dress and style the cast for The Birthplace of African Journalism, an educational documentary that explores the journalistic history of Makhanda. My approach to projects includes consultations with producers or directors, wherein I focus on the preferred visual aesthetic. I do independent research on the characters or world and produce mood boards, sketches, and samples. My experience working in a wardrobe and workshop has enabled me to interpret various technical requirements and effectively communicate design concepts throughout the making process. My interests include creating costumes and sets for worlds that are original and distorted realities. Feel free to browse through my portfolio. I am interested in hearing about your project.
